MacGregor of CASH got a subtle kicking. It's available to listen. He repeated his claim that the evidence on salt is as strong as that for tobacco. I emailed the programme and suggested that this claim shouldn't have gone unchallenged. I don't know if there are any figures on it, but from personal experience they would seem to use much, much more than one is used to in UK. When you couple that with the fact that they are also the heaviest smokers in Europe, and then try to relate those things to the fact that they also have very low rates (one of the lowest in Europe, I believe) of heart disease...well, it does rather make you wonder, doesn't it?

Wandering off topic here, I was out last night with my wife - drinks in a bar then on to a restaurant - and it occurred to me that whenever I go out here in the tourist season, I'm surrounded not only by locals but also by (mostly, but not all) Brits on holiday. And in all these places, a rough head count figure tells me that something like 75% of the people at the bar / tables are smokers.

Is it predominantly smokers who go on holiday? Or is the 23% smokers in UK figure total bullshit? It does seem rather strange.nisakimannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141759542968821728.post-4615298102061732522011-08-26T08:05:28.823+01:002011-08-26T08:05:28.823+01:00So, these really are the new Hitlers then; trying ...So, these really are the new Hitlers then; trying to produce the 'perfect' race by banning anything that they deem to be harmful and therefore liable to dilute the species.

How it must irk them that they themselves are nowhere near perfect so have to stoop to such underhand tactics!Lynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09090967182504400137noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141759542968821728.post-78378594756510272002011-08-26T05:27:10.102+01:002011-08-26T05:27:10.102+01:00Yep, salt is going to be banned too, right after a...Yep, salt is going to be banned too, right after alcohol and fatty foods.
