It's Not The Onion, It's California

You may have read recently that Berkeley in California voted overwhelmingly in favour of a tax on fizzy drinks. If not, Snowdon wrote an interesting summary of it here.

Well, following hot on the heels of some other transatlantic madness, you might like to know what kind of weirdo-packed place the Graun reader paradise of Berkeley really is. Here is film of a sombre event in one of the town's supermarkets where political activists held a funeral this month for a "unique individual" ... a pre-packaged supermarket chicken.

No, it's not The Onion. It's Berkeley.

If they cared so much for the chicken, why did they not provide a Mahogany, silk lined casket for it,rather than the shoddy cardboard box effort.
It all seemed a bit "out of work actors" to me.

This sounds similar to something PETA would have said. Maybe these people are tied into PETA, part of, funded by or brainwashed into believing, the way PETA does. PETA's founder is on record saying more chickens die per year than in concentration camps during the last world war and they would like to see chicken eating outlawed, then go on to have in excess of a 94% kill rate at PETA run animals shelters across the US, prefering to kill all those cats and dogs rather than even bother finding them a home, the way other animal shelter providers at least try to find homes. This sounds like a stunt PETA would pull off, perhaps it is.

Californication is the embodiment of The Onion. Life there is stranger than fiction. Just look at the parody of "scientists" infesting Ban Francisco.

That has to be the most blatant, and the least subtle bit of shop-lifting I ever saw! Did he pay for that chicken?

Chooks have curiosity? Sorrow? Rich emotional lives?
He's never farmed the damned things. All they do and all they CAN do is eat and shit. That's it.
