The Sky Is Falling

Yesterday was Earth Day, and just to show that the environmental scare stories you may have heard recently should be taken seriously, and not merely considered as the rantings of righteous loons seeking out their next grant, here is a prediction from the first Earth Day in 1970.

“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”
Kenneth Watt, Ecologist
More stunningly accurate predictions here.

Whatever happened to acid rain ? It was all the rage in the 80s. Did it go the same way as Duran Duran ?

If the earth is cooling, why am I still stranded in the US due to a volcano? I believe there is some stuff about a glacier that needs to melt in order to reduce the pressure from the volcano too.
