[...] the “domino theory” i.e. that once a measure has been applied to tobacco it will be applied to other products is patently false.Others make equally daft claims along the same lines.
Myth #7: It may be tobacco today but other consumer products will followBecause, you see, the examples of how patently unfalse it all is just keep piling up.
FACT: Tobacco is not like any other product, it is the only legal consumer product on the market which is lethal when used as intended. That is why the UK and over 170 other governments have signed up to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control which places legal obligations on governments to strictly regulate tobacco products. Plain packs for tobacco will not therefore set a precedent for other consumer products.
The United Nations now put their size 9s into ASH's molars by advocating supra-national interference in the consumer/producer relationship towards certain foods.
50 (c) Adopt statutory regulation on the marketing of food products, as the most effective way to reduce marketing of foods high in saturated fats, trans-fatty acids, sodium and sugar (HFSS foods) to children, as recommended by WHO, and restrict marketing of these foods to other groups;Like a Framework Convention for Food Control, do you mean? How novel! So HFSS foods are now as unique as tobacco.
(d) Impose taxes on soft drinks (sodas), and on HFSS foods, in order to subsidize access to fruits and vegetables and educational campaigns on healthy diets;
52. WHO, in discharging the mandate assigned to it by the General Assembly, should
(b) Consider the findings of the present report in preparing recommendations for a set of voluntary global targets for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.
Nope, no domino effect there either (according to state-funded pharma shills). Obviously.

We had the 'sugar is poison' man on TV a couple of weekends ago. It was highly educational: I had no idea my wife even knew some of the names she called him.
If one felt inclined to do a little investigating, one might find many of the antis (tobacco control, alcohol control, health services, food nannies, and very worryingly, even police departments) are twitter and Facebook friends.
Of course, we already know that some of the old guard of tobacco control have moved on to alcohol control groups. I'm certain that many of them don't actually believe their own rhetoric -- it's just a source of income. The government's teat is always ready to provide monetary nourishment.
The UN would be better employed worrying about the millions of malnourished children in the world, rather than agonising over the imagined dangers of sugar and salt. I'm sure there are many in the third world who would give their right arm for a supply of foods high in saturated fats, trans-fatty acids, sodium and sugar.
What a shower of tossers these people are. Someone should find something useful for them to do, like cleaning out cess pits or similar.
Angry Exile,
Kangaroo is tasty but most British people will not eat it because they think Kanagroos are cute. Same with Reindeer, tasty, healthy and can do well on very poor pastures. But try getting British shoppers to try munching one of Santa's friends and they come over all animal rights.
We have an uphill struggle.
The adoption of anti-tobacco tactics to "change perceptions" of something started quite some time ago. The attached dates back to 1995. The words "brain-wash" are used and smokers are said to "cower" outside buildings.

The speaker is now the Attorney General of the USA, ironic when you remember that he's deeply involved with the on-going Gunwalker scandal!

The language adopted by "Smokefree Partnership" in the link provided is the stuff of nightmare - a simple subject replacement exercise gives this toxic bilge universal application - it's like an old style double glazing / encyclopedia salesman's programmed selling pitch - the only way to deal with it if you've been daft enough to let them in - is to come over entirely unreasonable and physically eject them or ... sign on the line.
This is psychological thuggery
Angry, do you mean this "sugar is poison" guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffoOeW5wZ9sY'gotta love the way he starts out: "The greatest health crisis .. etc"
Sorta like the researcher who claimed thirdhand smoke on bedsheets was a "problem of global proportions" !
