Dangerous Doormats, Perilous Pictures

The bansturbators at Brighton and Hove council are at it again, I see.

First residents were told to remove their doormats.

Now tenants have been ordered to take down pictures and bin their pot plants, all in the name of health and safety risk.

People living in Noble Court, Hove, have been told by Hyde Housing Association they must clear their communal walkways as they pose a fire risk.

It follows Brighton and Hove City Council issuing a diktat to its tenants telling them to remove their doormats for similar reasons.
Quite what kind of fire risk a reproduced Constable on the wall, in a Wilkinson's frame, might pose, they don't say.

Still, rules is rules, bans is bans, and boy do Brighton council enjoy them.

If anyone was previously unconvinced that traditional parties of every stripe are all aligned to the same authoritarian, risk-terrified mindset, then surely Brighton's curious mish-mash of Tory, Green, Labour and Lib Dem should offer conclusive proof.

Be careful out there folks, and beware the psychopathic spider plant in the porch on your way out in the morning.

Sheesh.

I don't think the colour of the political stripe has any influence on the policies being pursued by a particular council. I think this demonstrates something we've seen time and time again; that the former 'pubic servant' attitude has long since left the scene, and been replaced by 'figures of authority' keen to exercise their power over us.

What a nasty piss-stained little country we are making. As Anon said, the political hue has no real bearing here - give a weak man a sniff of power and this is the result.

Find out who the bugger is (and there must be just one man who signed this off without telling the subordinate who thought it up to fuck off and grow up) and make his life a misery.

I reckon it's all that hay.

Scary thing is that a helluva lot of people living in Brighton and Hove think they are 'progressives'. Blind leading the stupid I always thought. Though very pretty in the summer.

DP, Don't, pse, start me on Housing Associations!

Living in Sheltered Housing I was informed by some snotty-nosed 20+ year old Housing Manager that I had to keep the door to my flat shut when I was smoking. I reminded her that I was actually smoking IN my flat and not IN communal areas and would she like to think of the opposite word to IN, precede it with a well-known Anglo-Saxon word and comply - I don't know why but she got most upset!

Ahh .. but here's the corollary .. if the imaginary hay on the Haywain caught fire .. One could always put it out using the imaginary water from Flatford Mill ..

Buy another cheapo, repro picture & they're fucked .. You've carried out a risk assessment & taken adequate precautions .. ;) ;) ;)

Always the same old tired response.

Quite right, the colour or mix of the local council has nothing to do with this nonsense but it does provide yet another illustration of how powerless locl politicians are in practise. They can do nothing but vote in the way that their paid officers tell them they can and those paid officers are the spawn of the 1970s and 80s Polytechnics with their marxist control freakery mindset and they now hold the power at all levels of the public administration.
