Bye Bye Bartlett?

The ever excellent AboutMyArea/MK11 has just broken a story which will be of great interest to many here.
AboutMyArea/MK11 has learned that Paul Bartlett has resigned from the Stony Stratford Town Council.

Mr Bartlett tendered his resignation as a member of the Town Council to the chairman yesterday. This was with immediate effect

Only yesterday, Paul Bartlett was confirmed as a candidate for the Stony Stratford South West Ward in the Town Council elections to be hold on 3rd May, 2012.

Currently it is not clear whether this resignation affects his nomination for the upcoming elections.

We have contacted both Mr Bartlett and the Stony Stratford Town Council for comment.
At present, it's not clear how Stony Stratford residents will cope without the hysterics, unhinged outbursts and occasional flashes of rage, but I'm sure they'll survive.

(check the Stony Stratford tag if you've not heard of Bartlett before)

UPDATE: Horses held. AboutMyArea/MK11 has more info which suggests Bartlett has 'resigned' merely to avoid censure by the Standards Board!

This is fantastic news!  But... *looks around suspiciously* what's he up to?

I suspect that even he could see the writing on the wall and an early resignation was preferable to a humiliating defeat at the polls.

I have absolutely no doubt, that after due consideration, the town council will conclude that Mr Paul Bartlett (not even worthy of the Monster raving Loony Party) should be awarded the towns Brush (off), not only in recognition of his unwanted services but also to sweep the streets until death do part him & brush!
CamerCleggs-take note of what went on here!

It seems that Herr Fartlett has been promoted.

The Herr will be lending his services to The Tyrant
Mentoring Program
run by ASH.

And, if the “grapevine” is correct, the Herr has accepted an
appointment to be Lansley’s limo driver….. which is sort of like driving an
ambulance. The Herr only needs to complete the “rudimentary arithmetic” and “cocktail
mixing” courses, and familiarize himself with the location of brothels in the
greater city area.

Three cheers for Fartlett!

Yep, there's more to come. Soon, too.

Check the update at AboutMyArea - stepping down to avoid censure, eh? Naughty boy.

That guy is a such a twat.  I'm pretty certain if a badger stood against him during the election, the badger would win by a vast majority.

What's more, he has jumped wards to avoid being opposed. See current make-up ...

Town Councils are the tiniest unit of elected representatives in England, and are legally exactly the same as civil Parish Councils. They really don't have many powers. You can't get a smaller unit without being a single Freeman and that doesn't count.

As a result, not all Town/Parish Council seats are contested and many remain vacant.

While not wishing to knock the hundreds of intelligent and committed Parish councillors who work hard at this tiny community level, such bodies do tend to attract more than their fair share of persons who - shall we say kindly - wouldn't shine in larger areas of public life or indeed normal social life. They are driven by their own egos and sometimes by ideas which are plainly cuckoo.

It's ridiculously easy to get elected to a Parish Council, by opting as Paul Bartlett has now done for a ward which is uncontested.  Perhaps a few of us should try it sometime.

What was he up before the Standards Board for, anyway? I forget.

Very interesting. Where there is smoke there is usually fire, even in the case of a rabid anti-smoking loon there is smoke.

How about this one. See the end of the document.

So he might have got off the complaint about bullying in JaneBest's link. But it seems that he has a certain personality trait which predisposes him to being forceful and robust. Actions which a reasonable person would see as bullying even though it isn't actually defined as such in legal code. But then a legal code trying to define human behaviour is prone to failure.

As an aside, considering that the Standards Board only meets four times a year, the document I linked to has a hell of a lot of complaints about councillors and others. It might for the whole of the Milton Keynes area, but even just a few should be surprising. To have pages and pages of complaints shows that the councillors and others are pretty much arseholes, unless it's only a few being repeatedly complained about.

Thanks JaneBest. The Community Association in question which Bartlett chaired at the time has been removed from the register of charities as it 'ceased to exist'...
