It's No Big Deal

For some reason, this ...

Coastguards in Dover and France say a large crocodile sighted in the English Channel was actually a piece of wood.

Officials have said that the wood probably did look like a crocodile from a distance.

Bathing in the sea in and around Boulogne-sur-Mer in France was suspended on Friday as a precaution while a search was conducted.
... reminded me of this.

The officials who suspended bathing in the sea are totally stupid and mind numbingly retarded. The simplest level of education would have allowed them to realise that reptiles are cold blooded. The cold English Channel would not be a normal environment for them. If one theoritically did swim in the Channel they would be pretty lethargic due to the cold, so not much of a danger. The smallest amount of common sense would have allowed them to realise that Australian salt water crocodile in the English Channel is a pretty far fetched idea.

If they did ban the bathing because of the fear that if they didn't they would be accused by the media of not having the safty of the public uppermost, then who is in charge? The media for making these kind of allegations? The public for taking such media stories as gospel. Or the coastguard who are probably the experts.
