Mother of two froze to death on doorstep in Warrington

IPCC commissioner Naseem Malik said: "This was a tragic incident resulting from a combination of excessive alcohol consumption and freezing temperatures."
So remember what they say about your Saturday night pub experience at Christmas time when it's brass monkeys.

"You're not being forced not to smoke, you merely have to step outside."

What could be more reasonable?

To be honest, it sounds as though she had some pretty callous "friends". If the taxi refused to take her, did the consequences of leaving her outside on a freezing night not occur to them?

Yes, there are many elements to the story. The one I was mischievously referring to, though, was the fact that alcohol consumption and very cold weather can be a dangerous combination.

I know many people who spend their entire night outside pubs nowadays but I suppose they're not worthy of concern in the 'caring', risk-averse society which the righteous have created.

Surely society's "cotton wool" should have kept her warm.

Wasn't there a case last year where some 80 odd year old man froze to death because the "care" home he lived in banned smoking?

@paul - I remember reading that, too. But, hey, that's just another filthy smoker off the face off the earth and ASH can add another death from smoking to its list.

Spooky. I left a comment over at Velvet Glove, Iron Fist very recently asking what would happen if a smoker had had a skinful and died of cold outside a pub while having a fag. Specifically I was wondering whether it would be ASH or AlkyCon who'd be claiming it as a preventable death caused by their personal pet hate. It almost seems that any time I make up some extreme scenario something like it turns out to have happened anyway.
