"Please Keep Smoking" Say ASH Scotland And The BMA

From The Scotsman:
MEDICAL leaders have urged Celtic and Rangers football clubs to reconsider their links with an electronic cigarettes company amid concerns that it will damage efforts to reduce smoking.
Woah! Slow up buttercup, what was that again? A product which is reducing the number of people smoking is damaging efforts to, err, reduce smoking?
In the BMA’s letter, Dr Andrew Thomson, a GP in Angus, said sport was a health activity and clubs such as Celtic and Rangers “should be leading by example to encourage healthy living rather than advertising a smoking product, which contains the addictive substance nicotine”.
The BMA’s call was welcomed by campaign group Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) Scotland.
Chief executive Sheila Duffy said: “There is a real concern that seeing people behaving as if they are smoking by using electronic cigarettes could normalise smoking."
Or, alternatively, seeing people not smoking by using electronic cigarettes instead could normalise, err, not smoking by way of using electronic cigarettes instead.

You know, I'm starting to think that big pharma must have a far greater hold on these tobacco controllers than just the symbiotic flow of cash. Have Pfizer and their chums snapped them during a rubber-clad orgy involving goats and trafficked Lithuanians, or something?

So, Glasgow footie fans, remember to keep smoking the tobacco before and after matches, yeah? Whatever you do, don't let your football club introduce you to an alternative or you might like it. And that just wouldn't help pharma profits or Duffy and Thomson's next pay rise, now would it?*

* Plus you could end up seeing them pictured on the front page of The Scotsman trussed like a turkey while being whipped by lady-boys, which will harm you more than any number of Superkings might!

I really don't think that it is the pharma money Dick.I wish it was but these people are inspired by a Marxist hatred of industry, a lack of genuine intellectual capacity, a massively inflated belief in their own self-importance and a fanatical adherence to healthist dogma. In Sheila Duffy's case I could add so much more but my mother taught me not to mock the afflicted and the Scottish government at least loves her. It pays her and her chums loads of money so I am assuming that must be the case.

Or, alternatively, Novartis have a Polaroid of her re-enacting 1970s classic porno Animal Farm. ;)

Behave! I am trying to be nice out of respect for my late mother. I did of course mean that the Scottish government loves Duffy rather than my mum. As far as I know they never gave my mum a penny which is a shame as she was rather more talented than anyone employed by ASH Scotland and she was entitled to wear a tartan. Come to think of it she was a bit of a leftie too but she hated oily authoritarians so that would probably rule her out for free handouts. Not being prepared to lie repeatedly in public would I suspect also have proved a bit of a disadvantage these days.

I think the Scottish government seems to love anyone who wastes taxes as comprehensively as Duffy. I can quite believe that your mum was more talented, but the inability to lie would have let her down as politicians only seem to react to unrealistic hyperbole nowadays, sadly.

This is why I love e-cigs. They are showing these hideous people up as having no care for health whatsoever. A lot of us knew this all along, it's just that the emotional baggage surrounding tobacco in the public's mind has mostly obscured common sense. ;)

You should have added the final sentence, DP:

"Charlie Hamshaw-Thomas, director of E-Lites, said: “The BMA are ‘experts’ without evidence playing puppet to the pharmaceutical industry’s agenda.”

Good to see someone hitting back with a good, solid blow to the solar plexus.

What the statements from the Zealots reveal, apart from Drug Company involvement, is their aim of eventual PROHIBITION. Ecigs militate against eventual prohibition, as is illustrated by the concentration of ASH ET AL on visibility. Ecigs have thrown a spanner into the works, and ASH ET AL don't like it. They have splurged black ink all over the blueprint.

Thanks for that image.... Now, every time Duffy appears in my eyeline, I shall have great difficulty NOT seeing her being tethered by a goat-horned, rubber-masked Lithuanian Dom with a great big bullwhip. And I've just made it worse. Bugger.

Indeed. And yes, it was a doozy of a comment by Charlie H_T wasn't it? :)

Have some of this. ;)

Big Pharma, and the Tax Farmers, seem to have had their way here in Italy too:

“the addictive substance nicotine”

Anyone else noticed this subtle change in emphasis lately? For years we were told that no, no, it's not the nicotine that's bad, it's all the other stuff that goes with it. Chew gum, wear patches; they're safe. Now there's a third way to enjoy the stuff without the dangers, suddenly they decide that nicotine's bad after all.

It's absolutely not about health.
