Acclaimed Scottish actor Brian Cox has been busy cataloguing the history of a number of substances for the BBC in a series entitled Addicted to Pleasure. They are all very watchable and mostly devoid of the usual health hysteria, but his denouement for the episode on tobacco might be of particular interest.
A delightful end to a most engaging hour's TV, so if you're in the UK, why not brew a coffee - or, since it's a Friday, pour a stiffer beverage (whisky is next up for Cox) - and view the whole thing.
By way of bonus, a friend of this blog appears around the 15 minute mark.

How perfectly bloody delightful...
Thanks, that was an interesting watch (especially for someone who doesn't watch TV ;)).
The last few minutes could almost have been an advert for e-cigs - barring the lack of mention.
Unfortunately over at Alcohol Concern aka the BBC online news team, the relentless prohibitionist agenda continues to be churned out courtesy of yet another poorly researched misleading piece of propaganda paid for by us without our consent (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-20498044). BBC news is no longer pretending. It is effectively the marketing department of the public health industry.
