You Live And Learn, Eh?

Wikipedia can be very interesting at times (click to enlarge alert). Banned video games ...

... in Australia fair ...

... and in that terrifyingly censorial hotspot, the People's Republic of China.

Funny old world, innit?

Australia is a prison camp - it's where I'm from.

This is no joke - England is practically Bacchanalian by comparison.

I joined IDTBH and received an emai from my MP. It's cockwaffle, of course. Only 16% of Australians smoke, etc etc.

That's still more than Moslems or homosexuals.

Australia is becoming a far more fascistic society now. Some of the police behaviour at sporting events is eyeopening.

I'm all for a bit of Aussie bashing, but how do you know that the PR China list of banned games hasn't in itself been censored?

So did all that banning result in Australian youth renouncing "mutilation & gore, high impact violence, sexual violence and cruelty including rape, nudity (OMG!) and drilling into body parts" or have they just carried on being teenagers much as before.
Point being that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video was supposed to have turned the teenage me into a maniac but it's now on general release, no harm done.

Did I mention to you, Dick, the new aussie site set up by Philip Morris to give a voice to people affected by anti-smoking laws? It is called "I deserve to be heard" and the URL is:

https://www.ideservetobeheard.com.au/home.php

The site itself is not 'interactive' although you can 'tell your story'. It invites you (aussies) to write to your MP (primarily about the 'plain packaging' issue). But there is a LATEST NEWS section which lists recent newspaper articles. I looked at the comments on a couple of the articles and was amazed at hate and vituperation issuing from the zealots, and their ignorance of the facts re SHS - all 'stinks' and stuff. The trouble is that the site has published links to these articles too late for anyone to comment on them (2 days is ancient history). I have emailed the site and suggested that they get the stories in pronto, but we wait and see. It is a new site, and they have been 'catching up' with their published stories. Give them a chance, I suppose. I have not given up on them yet.

It is interesting to observe, is it not, that the advance of Tobacco Control from inside to outside, is proceeding at its fastest in the warmest states, and in those states which have never been invaded and put under the jackboot.

Banned in UK. Reason, depicts someone smoking as if normal.

Confirms what I've long suspected - urban Aussies are fast becoming complete wusses.

God help us if we ever need to call upon the Men of the Empire again - they're all Malaysian hairdressers and wispy-bearded veggie whingers these days.

Er, bit of a tangent old chap, but having just used AVG search to navigate to your blog, I found that the first link to appear was to 'Bad Girls in your Area'.

Is there something you feel you ought to be telling us..?

I have SoF Pay Back. It has impressive gore levels. I'm surprised Australia banned it. It's only a video game not real life!

Raedwald: A fair description. I'm wondering when their surfers will be required to wear dayglo flotation devices, knee and elbow pads, and be attached to a safety line.

BTS: Didin't you post a bit early to be smoking that kind of stuff? ;)

The game banning is not a sign of Australia becoming more authoritarian (it started as a prison so arguably it's less authoritarian now than in it's early days) since it's not something new. Rather it's the result of a succession of paternalist fuckwits, usually religious as far as I can tell, and a constitutional requirement that they must all agree to the RA18+ classification to allow the more adult games. Most gamers are for it and even the federal government agrees, but it can be blocked by one state's Attorney General who refuses to play ball. This was being done by the South Australian AG until he resigned last year. His replacement, John Rau, was in favour of bringing in the new classification, partly because an unintended consequence of the current system is that many games sold as 18 in other countries are classed MA15+ here. They're not quite violent enough to be refused classification but MA15+ is the highest classification available so that's what they get, which is the exact opposite of what the nannies and god botherers intend. John Rau seems keen on an RA18+ classification if for no other reason than to fix this. In the meantime adult gamers here will keep doing what they've always done and just get the zombie splat gore kill games from overseas.
