Obesity, Meet Global Warming

Ooh, this is a new approach.

Rising indoor winter temperatures linked to obesity?

Lead author Dr Fiona Johnson, UCL Epidemiology & Public Health, said: “Increased time spent indoors, widespread access to central heating and air conditioning, and increased expectations of thermal comfort all contribute to restricting the range of temperatures we experience in daily life and reduce the time our bodies spend under mild thermal stress - meaning we’re burning less energy. This could have an impact on energy balance and ultimately have an impact on body weight and obesity.

“Research into the environmental drivers behind obesity, rather then the genetic ones, has tended to focus on diet and exercise – which are undoubtedly the major contributors. However, it is possible that other environmental factors, such as winter indoor temperatures, may also have a contributing role. This research therefore raises the possibility for new public health strategies to address the obesity epidemic.”

Co-author, Marcella Ucci , UCL Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, said: “The findings suggest that lower winter temperatures in buildings might contribute to tackling obesity as well reducing carbon emissions.”
So turn that heating down when it's cold, OK? It's not just harmful to the planet, it's killing you too, you lardy-arsed eco-terrorist!

Enjoyment and comfort are bad, m'kay.

The relationship between ambient temperature and calorie consumption is surely well known. Why don't they just tell us?

I would have thought global warming meant we should be out in the sun this time of year moonbat and the Indie said so ?
Oh they were wrong.

Anyhow read the resume enviro this - enviro that blah blah yadda yadda.

It's the dust mite fault I tells ya !

So, is this why the old people who cannot afford their heating bills due to the eco-fascists forcing green tariff top-ups on them are always so skinny?

So they have made central heating a 'must have' even for those who suck the state's tit.
It is in the main powered by gas which is burnt and the waste products are CO2 and water vapour. So combustion of gas produces 100% of the main global warming culprits!

And now this same central heating is making us all fat, allegedly. All that is missing is the link to cigarette smoking/consumption and possibly an Aky Ada 'eco' terror link and the MSM's job will have been done.

I notice it's the "science" of epidemiology being used again to create the mental links. Epidemiology seems more to be a tool of propaganda than a tool of "science" in the old-fashioned sense of the word, much like the word "journalist" in reality means "copy/paste artist" with no moral integrity and no desire to seek out the objective truth.

Reminds me a bit of something I wrote a couple of years ago after thinking about food and metabolism:

It may even be that the supposed modern 'epidemic' of obesity is a perfectly natural response to living a relatively inactive life in a cold climate with abundant cheap food but expensive clothing and housing, with the result that the natural equilibrium is found where people don't wear much, live in underheated houses, and so carry a lot of thermally insulating body fat to make up for their underclothed inactivity. When food is cheap, getting fat may be the easiest way to stay warm.

One thing about these people is that they are always looking for a new approach. They are lost souls.

Unbelievable, I can just see the new "bans" now: first the government will identify obese persons and more importantly, where they live; then the public utility company will limit the amount of power to their air-conditioning in the summer in order to, sorry, "nudge" them outdoors to what?!?!? Exercise?!?! Also, retail stores will be required to watch 'obese' people very carefully and if it is determined that they are not really shopping but are just lounging about in the air-conditioning they will be immediately asked to leave.
