How Odd

Inexplicable, even.

Rich Germans demand higher taxes

The group held a demonstration in Berlin on Wednesday to draw attention to their plans, throwing fake banknotes into the air.

Mr Vollmer said it was "really strange that so few people came".

You don't say.

If they'd thrown real banknotes into the air, they might have drawn a bigger crowd...

I they feel they have too much money, why not donate it, instead of suggesting that the state extort it???

And on the topic itself, how did these Germans get so rich while being so stupid? If you have more money than you need you can just give it away, yes? If you think that public services need it more than any charities you can think of then buy the local school a library extension or give the hospital an ambulance. Unless there's some law against that, or unless there is no word in German for philanthropy, the last thing you want to do is give more money to the government. They'll waste half on admin and lose most of the rest behind the back of the fridge.

Perhaps the Germans have a government they feel they can trust. A strange concept for us Brits to grasp, understandably.

"2.2 million Germans with personal fortunes of £450,000", is that all ?
Perhaps the reason they do not simply donate to charity is that they will only do so if everyone else has to do likewise; keeping down with the Joneses, or Johannses.
