Irony Overload

When eco-stunts go bad, it is extremely amusing.

Eco-sailors rescued by oil tanker

An expedition team which set sail from Plymouth on a 5,000-mile carbon emission-free trip to Greenland have been rescued by an oil tanker.

Do you reckon they blushed?

The expedition was followed by up to 40 schools across the UK to promote climate change awareness.

But atrocious weather dogged their journey after 27 April, culminating with the rescue on 1 May after the boat was temporarily capsized three times by the wind.

In one incident Mr Stoddart hit his head and the wind generator and solar panels were ripped from the yacht.

Stop sniggering at the back!

Bwahahahaha ...

That is quite, quite brilliant.

Might have been even funnier if they'd had to be rescued by the Japanese whaling fleet ;-)

Even funnier is wondering how the teachers explained this to the kids at those schools monitoring the journey.

Bearwitch: We used to follow the Whitbread Round the World Race when I was at school. A map of the world was on our classroom wall with pins and string to show where they had gone. Some did suffer problems and drop out but we loved it. It was like It's a Knockout on the sea.

The kids following this were probably more enthralled by the thing sinking than anything it did before. They will probably remember too that solar panels and wind turbines don't work, whilst oil is good as it picked them up.

At home time they'll be asking their parents why the guys didn't just shoot up there in a powerboat.

Big fail. Funny, huh?

DP: exactly. How are they going to try to tell the kids that green is good when obviously this has been a failure - plus the added bonus of who saved them.

I am still smiling thinking about the explanations....
